Michael Burns is a partner in the Capital Markets and M&A Group with McMillan LLP’s Toronto office. Michael provides advice on all facets of securities law with a particular emphasis on alternative investment funds, mutual funds and structured products. He regularly advises portfolio managers, investment fund managers and dealers in relation to obtaining all necessary registrations to conduct business as well as on regulatory compliance matters. He also provides advice to foreign-domiciled portfolio managers, investment fund managers and dealers on offerings investment services and products to residents of Canada. Michael’s securities law work covers a wide variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, take-over bids (hostile and friendly) and proxy contests as well as acting on behalf of issuers or underwriters/agents in relation to private placements, rights offerings, and initial public offerings of securities. His corporate finance experience has included issuers in industries such as mining (both junior and senior issuers), technology, advertising/corporate communications, television/entertainment production, real estate investment trusts and transportation.
